Christmas in the Mountains – Celebrating the New Year in the Snow
How about spending Christmas in the mountains or ringing in the New Year in the heart of the wintery Alps? With the Urlaubs-Express, your winter vacation begins that very evening. Our Christmas and New Year’s train takes you overnight from Hamburg to Landeck in Tyrol—and back north again after the holidays.
As the wintry landscape rolls by outside, you’ll travel through the night toward the Alps in a sleeper car or couchette car. The next morning, you’ll wake up in Tyrol. You can choose from six different train stations for your winter vacation: Kufstein, Wörgl, Jenbach, Innsbruck, Ötztal, and Landeck.
Whether it’s Christmas in the Wilder Kaiser region, winter days in the Zillertal, ringing in the New Year in Innsbruck, skiing in Sölden, or heading further on toward Arlberg and Ischgl—many of Tyrol’s most famous winter sports regions are just a short trip away from our stops. You choose your winter destination—we’ll take you a good deal closer to the snow, mountains, and holiday spirit overnight.
📍 Our stops in Tyrol
🚗 Drive to Munich in your own car
Would you like to travel in your own car during your winter vacation? On the Christmas and New Year’s train, you can take advantage of the car transport service between Hamburg and Munich.
On the southbound trip, your vehicle will be loaded in Hamburg and travel with you overnight to Munich. From there, you can continue your journey in your own car toward Tyrol and on to your vacation destination. On the return trip, it works exactly the opposite way: You’ll check your car in Munich and travel back to Hamburg overnight with your car. This way, you can combine the unique experience of a night train journey with the freedom of getting around your vacation destination in your own car.
🌙 Traveling at night. Arriving in Tyrol in the morning.
Board the train in Hamburg in the evening, spend the night on board, and arrive in the Tyrolean mountains the next morning. Whether it’s a Christmas vacation, a ski trip between Christmas and New Year’s, or ringing in the New Year in the snow—with the Urlaubs-Express, your winter vacation begins the moment you set off for the mountains.

Meet other passengers, chat about slopes, ski resorts, and the most beautiful runs, or simply enjoy the special atmosphere of a night train journey to the Alps together.
Raise a glass, get to know each other, and enjoy the anticipation—while the Urlaubs-Express takes you to your winter vacation overnight.

More space thanks to the free ski compartment
To ensure you can relax and enjoy your trip right from the start, we offer our winter sports guests a free ski compartment for skis and snowboards. This leaves more space in your own compartment for luggage and personal items.
Your winter sports equipment will be stored separately during the trip and is securely stowed away. This gives you more room to move around in the seating, reclining, or sleeping cars and makes traveling together even more enjoyable, especially for groups.
Would you like to plan your winter vacation in more detail before your trip? Our partner, Tirol Werbung, offers a wealth of practical information about your stay—from ski resorts, mountain railways, and ski passes to snow and weather conditions, as well as local transportation by bus and train. You’ll also find suggestions for day trips, winter activities, and plenty of other information about St. Anton am Arlberg and Tyrol.
