From the UEX Terminal on to summer vacation
In the summer of 2027, five car-carrying train terminals will serve as starting points for numerous attractive destinations: Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Munich, Lörrach, and Villach. From there, you can continue your journey on your own terms in your own car or on your motorcycle—heading for the mountains and lakes, to the sea, to historic cities, or across the border into neighboring European countries.
Villach is located in the heart of the border triangle of Austria, Italy, and Slovenia, making it an ideal gateway to the Carinthian lakes, the Alps, East Tyrol, Italy, Slovenia, and all the way to the Adriatic Sea. From Munich, you can quickly reach South Tyrol, the Allgäu, the Bavarian lakes, and numerous destinations on the edge of the Alps. Lörrach opens the way to Switzerland, France, the Black Forest, and onward toward northern Italy.
Our terminals also offer many options for travel northward: From Hamburg, you can continue on to vacation destinations along the North Sea and Baltic Sea, to Schleswig-Holstein, or toward Denmark and Scandinavia. Düsseldorf is an ideal starting point for trips to the Rhineland, the Eifel region, and onward to the Netherlands and Belgium.
You can also take our summer trains as night trains without a car or motorcycle. This means there are additional boarding and disembarking options along the routes, in addition to the loading stations. Discover our onward travel destinations here and find out which vacation regions are particularly easy to reach from the five UEX terminals.
Villach – between the lakes of Carinthia and Southern Europe
Villach is located in the heart of Carinthia, nestled between mountains and some of Austria’s most beautiful lakes. Faaker See, Wörthersee, and Ossiacher See are all within easy reach. The region is especially easy to explore on your own, at your own pace, on varied roads—especially if you’re traveling by motorcycle or car. Italy and Slovenia are also very close by: Tarvisio, Kranjska Gora, and Bled are great destinations for day trips and excursions. If you travel further south, you can reach the Adriatic coast—including Trieste and the Slovenian coast—via Italy or Slovenia. East Tyrol, including Lienz, is also easily accessible—ideal conditions for varied trips through three countries.

Lörrach – The Three-Country Corner between the Black Forest, Alsace, and Switzerland
Lörrach is located where Germany, France, and Switzerland meet. Basel is just a few kilometers away, and you can reach the southern Black Forest and the Markgräflerland just as quickly. In nearby Alsace, Colmar and the famous wine villages beckon, while Freiburg and the Kaiserstuhl offer further opportunities for day trips. To the south, Switzerland opens up with its lakes and Alpine regions—from Lake Lucerne through the Bernese Oberland to Ticino. With your own car or motorcycle, you can continue your journey across the Alps all the way to northern Italy. This makes Lörrach a versatile starting point for individual tours through several countries at once.

Hamburg – from the North Sea and the Baltic Sea to Scandinavia
Hamburg is an ideal starting point for trips to the north. By car or motorcycle, you can quickly reach the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts with their beaches, islands, and seaside resorts. Continuing further north, the journey takes you through Schleswig-Holstein to Denmark and from there to Sweden and Norway. Copenhagen, Malmö, and the coasts of southern Sweden are all great options, as are longer trips to Gothenburg, Stockholm, or Oslo. Bridges and ferry connections open up numerous routes through the Scandinavian landscape of lakes, coasts, and fjords. This makes Hamburg the perfect starting point for vacations on the North Sea and Baltic Sea, as well as for extended road trips through Scandinavia.

Düsseldorf – from the Rhineland westward toward the sea
Düsseldorf offers ideal conditions for continuing your journey through Western Europe. By car or motorcycle, the Netherlands and Belgium are within easy reach—from Maastricht and the Ardennes all the way to Brussels, Antwerp, or the Belgian North Sea coast. To the west, Amsterdam and the Dutch coastal regions beckon, while the journey can comfortably continue through Belgium to France. Luxembourg is also easily accessible and makes for a great stop on a longer round-trip. This makes Düsseldorf a versatile starting point for vacations in the Benelux countries, along the North Sea coast, and in France.
