Villach
Lakes, mountains, and three countries right on your doorstep

Villach is located in the heart of Carinthia, nestled between mountains and some of Austria’s most beautiful lakes. The historic downtown and its proximity to the Carinthian lakes make Villach itself a versatile vacation destination. At the same time, its location near Italy and Slovenia offers numerous opportunities for day trips and tours. Lake Faaker See is about 10 km away, Tarvisio in Italy about 30 km, and Kranjska Gora in Slovenia about 25 km. Lake Wörthersee, Lake Ossiach, and Lake Bled are also within easy reach. Particularly appealing is the opportunity to travel between three countries and completely different landscapes in a short amount of time. Carinthia offers warm swimming lakes and mountain scenery, Slovenia features the Julian Alps, and Italy boasts the Friuli region. Those who wish to travel further south can also reach the Adriatic coast via Slovenia or Italy. Villach is therefore ideal for a longer stay as well as a starting point for a varied round trip through the south.
Munich
The Bavarian Way of Life and the Gateway to the Alps

Munich combines the vibrancy of a major city with the Bavarian way of life and an ideal location for continuing your journey toward the Alps. Marienplatz, the Viktualienmarkt, the English Garden, and numerous museums make the city itself an attractive destination.
At the same time, Munich is an excellent starting point for trips to Upper Bavaria, the Allgäu, and onward to Austria and Italy. Lake Starnberg is about 25 kilometers away, Lake Tegernsee about 50 kilometers, and Lake Chiemsee about 90 kilometers. Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Berchtesgaden, and Lake Königssee are also easily accessible.
Those who wish to travel further south can quickly reach Tyrol, South Tyrol, and northern Italy via the Alpine routes. This makes Munich ideal both for a city break and as a starting point for a longer summer vacation among lakes, mountains, and destinations further south.
Lörrach
Three Countries – Countless Possibilities

Lörrach is located right where Germany, France, and Switzerland meet. This makes the city an ideal starting point for a vacation in the Tri-Border Area and for tours through a wide variety of landscapes and regions. Basel is only about 10 km away, Colmar in Alsace about 65 km, and Lucerne about 100 km. You can also reach the southern Black Forest, the Markgräflerland, and numerous destinations in Switzerland just as quickly. Freiburg, the Kaiserstuhl, and the famous wine villages of Alsace are also great options for day trips. To the south, the whole of Switzerland opens up with its lakes and Alpine regions. From Lake Lucerne and the Bernese Oberland all the way to Ticino, there are countless possibilities for continuing your journey on your own. And for those who want to go even further, the Swiss Alpine routes ultimately lead to northern Italy. Thus, Lörrach is not only a destination in the far southwest of Germany but also an excellent starting point for journeys through several countries.
Düsseldorf
Your UEX Starting Point in the West

Düsseldorf is one of the main departure points for the UEX summer trains, and thanks to its location, it’s easily accessible from large parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as the Netherlands and Belgium. At the same time, a visit to the Rhine metropolis itself is well worth it. The Old Town, the banks of the Rhine, Königsallee, MedienHafen, and numerous museums offer plenty of opportunities to add an extra day to your vacation. Cologne is about 40 km away, Venlo in the Netherlands is about 60 km away, and Maastricht is about 100 km away. The Ruhr region, the Lower Rhine, and the Bergisches Land are also in the immediate vicinity. Travelers from Belgium, for example, can easily reach Düsseldorf from Liège and the border region, while the excellent highway connections make the loading station easily accessible from many parts of western Germany. This makes it easy to combine a trip on the UEX with a city break or a few extra days along the Rhine. Düsseldorf is thus an ideal starting point for a summer vacation heading south.
Hamburg
Hanseatic City and UEX: Gateway to the North

Hamburg is the starting point for numerous UEX summer trains and, at the same time, one of Germany’s most popular city destinations. The harbor, Speicherstadt, Elbphilharmonie, Landungsbrücken, and the Alster offer plenty of reasons to spend a few days in the Hanseatic city before or after your train trip. The North Sea and the Baltic Sea are also surprisingly close: Lübeck is about 70 km away, Timmendorfer Strand on the Baltic Sea is about 85 km away, and Cuxhaven on the North Sea is about 120 km away. In addition, the Lüneburg Heath, Holstein Switzerland, and the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic Sea coast are all great options for a side trip. Hamburg is easily accessible for vacationers from Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, and Bremen. For travelers from Denmark and other parts of Scandinavia, the Hanseatic city also offers an ideal starting point for the UEX summer trains heading south. This makes it easy to combine your main vacation trip with a stay in Hamburg or a side trip to the North German coast.
