In summer, the “capital of the Alps” is an ideal destination for nature lovers and mountain hikers. The city on the Inn is surrounded by picturesque Alpine peaks. Innsbruck is also an ideal starting point for destinations in the western Alps.
A must for those interested in sports is a visit to the famous ski jump on the Bergisel, a 746 metre high hill in the south of the city. There is a viewing platform that offers a fantastic panoramic view. The city of 120,000 inhabitants also offers urban flair. Its landmark is the “Golden Roof”, a building in the old town with a late Gothic splendour dungeon. Many restaurants with excellent local cuisine are also located nearby. With the UEX motorail train you get there conviently from Northern Germany an Scandinavia without the stress of a long car journey with traffic jams and construction sites.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Upper Bavaria is only a good hour’s drive away from Innsbruck. Onward travel to Switzerland and Italy is also very easy from Innsbruck. Two examples: The distance to Zurich is about 285 kilometers by car, and there are just under 400 kilometers by car between Innsbruck and beautiful Venice. In combination with the Urlaubs-Express Hamburg – Munich, there are interesting combinations of traffic days for individual vacation planning.
